2. ISDN

a) What are the requirements for a ISDN terminal adaptor to be compatible with the TeleEye?

Answer: TeleEye can work with any ISDN terminal adaptors that are compatible with X.75, V.110 and V.120 protocols. ZyXEL OmniNet ISDN External Terminal Adaptor is recommended.

b) How should a ISDN terminal adaptor be configured before connecting to the TeleEye?

Answer: The ISDN terminal adaptors should be programmed to either X.75, V.110 or V.120 protocol before connecting to the TeleEye. The same protocol should be programmed and saved into the two ISDN terminal adaptors being used on the transmitting side and the receiving side. ZyXEL OmniNet ISDN External Terminal Adaptor is recommended.

3. Leased Line

a) How should a pair of 2-wire/4-wire leased line modems be configured before connecting to the TeleEye?

Answer: TeleEye is fully compatible with any 2-wire/4-wire leased line modems available in the market. Recommended models include MultiTech Systems MultiModemZBA Corporate-User Modem, ZyXEL U-90E 56k Data Fax Modem for 2-wire leased line, ZyXEL U-336S Professional 33.6kbps Data/Fax Modem for 2-wire/4-wire leased line. Before connecting the leased line modems to the TeleEye, one of the leased line modems should be configured as an originate modem and the other one should be configured as an answering modem. Then the modems would negotiate and train up the connection automatically when they are connected to the leased lines and the TeleEye.

b) Is there any improvement on the frame refreshing rate for 2-wire/4-wire leased line as comparing with PSTN?

Answer: As 2-wire/4-wire leased line modems are also complied to V.34 protocol, the maximum data transmission rate is 33,600bps. Hence the frame refreshing rate should be the same on PSTN.

c) How can TeleEye be used on T1/E1 line?

Answer: T1 and E1 are high speed data leased lines for connecting LANs in different locations together to form a wide area network (WAN). So if the TeleEye is connected to the network and assigned with an unique IP address, it can transmit video over the T1/E1 line.

d) Can TeleEye be used on microwave/radio link?

Answer: TeleEye is compatible to any communication channels provided that a communication equipment with an asychronous RS-232 interface or a RJ-45 network interface supporting TCP/IP. In other words, TeleEye can be used on a specific microwave/radio link provided that a suitable communication equipment can be identified in the market.

4. LAN

a) How would the network traffic be affected if more users are connecting to the TeleEye transmitter simultaneously?

Answer: No. As the user can control the throughput of the TeleEye transmitter, it has been limited the total bandwidth used for video transmission. When there is multiple connections, it will share the same bandwidth among the viewers and thus will not affect on the network traffic.

b) How can TeleEye transmitter be used on a network which uses DHCP?

Answer: TeleEye transmitter does not support DHCP, but it can work on a DHCP network without any problem. What you need to do is just assigning a static IP address that is outside the DHCP address range to the TeleEye transmitter to avoid any address conflict. e.g. if the DHCP address ranges from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.100. Then you can assign a static IP address 192.168.0.101 to the TeleEye transmitter.

c) What should be done if a message "Server not found" is received while connecting to a TeleEye transmitter?

Answer: The message "Server not found" indicates that the IP address can be found on the network, but it is not associated with a TeleEye transmitter. So please check if the IP address entering into the TeleEye receiving software is identical to that configured inside the TeleEye transmitter.

d) What should be done if a message "Attempt to connection is timed out" is received while connecting to a TeleEye transmitter?

Answer: The message "Attempt to connection is timed out" indicates the TeleEye transmitter cannot be located on the network. (i) Please check if the TeleEye transmitter is powered up and properly connected to the network. (ii) Please check if the TCP/IP settings, including IP address, subnet mask and gateway (for Internet) are properly configured.

e) What should be done if a message "Connection is reset by remote side" is received while connecting to a TeleEye transmitter?

Answer: The message "Connection is reset by remote side" indicates the number of concurrent users to the TeleEye transmitter reaches its maximum limit. So you can retry and connection will be successful if some other users disconnect from the TeleEye transmitter.

5. INTERNET

a) Can TeleEye transmitter be used on Internet connection assigned with a dynamic IP address?

Answer: We have developed a proprietary sureLINK technology that makes the TeleEye transmitter possible to connect on an Internet connection assigned with a dynamic IP address. User can apply a sureLINK address, in the format www.[company name].[location name].TeleEye.net, for his TeleEye transmitter. Then he can make connection to his TeleEye transmitter by using the sureLINK address, without the need to know the IP address of the Internet connection.

b) Can TeleEye transmitter and a computer network share the same Internet connection?

Answer: The TeleEye transmitter can connect to a computer network and share the same Internet connection. If an Internet router is being used and it supports "port mapping" function, the IP address of the TeleEye transmitter can be mapped into a specific port number in the Internet connection. If one of the PCs in the network is directed connected to the Internet connection, the TeleEye Proxy Server can be used to map the TeleEye transmitter to a specific port number in the Internet connection.

c) Can two or more TeleEye transmitters be installed on the same Internet connection?

Answer: Unique internal IP addresses should be assigned to different TeleEye transmitters. Then individual TeleEye transmitter should be mapped to an unique Internet port in the Internet gateway.

6. MOBILE

a) Can TeleEye transmitter be used on HSCSD?

Answer: TeleEye Dialup transmitter DT-103G can connect to a mobile phone and transmit video on HSCSD. Recommended models include Nokia 6210 and 6310. Video can be transmitted at data rate up to 28.8kbps.

b) Can TeleEye receiving PC be used on HSCSD?

Answer: Yes, our TeleEye supports receiving video on HSCSD using mobile phones like Nokia Cardphone 2.0, Ericsson T39m, etc. If the TeleEye transmitter is connected to PSTN, the maximum data connection speed would be 28,800bps. If the TeleEye transmitter is connected to ISDN, the maximum data connection speed would be 43,200bps.

c) Can users get video by using a mobile phone running on 3G / GPRS / EDGE / HSDPA?

Answer: Yes. TeleEye M-303 which is a J2ME based application running on mobile phone, connects to a remotely located TeleEye RX Series Video Recording Transmitter via mobile channel such as 3G, GPRS, EDGE and HSDPA. Just by a simple click, you can then view instant video wherever you are.

d) Can TeleEye receiving PC connect through HSCSD to a TeleEye transmitter connecting to ISDN?

Answer: Besides HSCSD and PSTN on the other end, HSCSD supports communication with a device connecting through ISDN as well. If the TeleEye transmitter is connected to an ISDN terminal adaptor configured using V.110 or V.120 protocol, the HSCSD handset should be programmed to use the same protocol on the receiving end. The maximum data transmission rate for HSCSD connecting to ISDN is 43,200bps.

B. VIDEO COMPRESSION

a) How to compare our SMAC-M with other standard compression technologies, like MPEG-4, M-JPEG and JPEG?

Answer: SMAC-M is our proprietary video compression technology developed by TeleEye specially for video surveillance applicaion. Unlike traditional video coders such as JPEG, M-JPEG or MPEG-4, SMAC-M is the first video coder which generates multiple video streams which allow multiple remote users to obtain reasonable surveillance performance for their respective channel requirements without affecting each other. It compresses better and records 60% longer than MPEG-4.

b) What factors would affect the video refreshing rate in the TeleEye?

Answer: The frame refreshing rate on the TeleEye depends on the actual data throughput on the communication channel, amount of change between successive frames, picture resolution and quality selected by user.

c) Would the picture quality be affected on poor communication network condition?

Answer: No. The picture quality of the TeleEye would not be affected regardless of the communication network condition and the actual data throughput on the communication channel. The communication network condition would only affect the actual frame refreshing rate on the TeleEye.

C. RECORDING

a) What is the picture size in the recorded video?

Answer: For reception software WX-30, the picture size recorded is generally the same as what you see on the screen. Resolution is 720x576 and 360x288 pixels.

b) How would the situation be handled when the recording capacity is full?

Answer: Users can choose the appropriate recording disk mode for their applications. The mode "Fixed" : The recording will stop automatically when the disk is full and therefore the existing records will not be overwritten. The mode "Cyclic" : The video will recorded continuously until it is manually stopped. When the disk is full, it will overwrite on the recorded video files sequentially from the first recorded file.

c) How could a certain part of the recorded video be extracted?

Answer: TeleEye WX-30 has a 'Remote Footage Extraction' feature in the "Recording" menu of "Transmitter Setup" for user to extract a certain part of the recorded video into a separate file. User only need to select the amount of memory and starting time for back up and the function will calculate the end time automatically.

D. ALARM

a) What types of sensors are compatible with the TeleEye transmitter?

Answer: All alarm sensors, including magentic door contacts, PIR motion detector, etc. with dry-contact (i.e. normal open or normal close) outputs are fully compatible with the TeleEye transmitter.

b) How would the TeleEye handle if an alarm trigger is detected?

Answer: If the TeleEye transmitter has not been connected to a receiving PC, it would automatically make connection to the TeleEye receiving PC when an alarm goes off. Video(s) from the camera(s) associated to the alarm input would be transmitted to the receiving PC after the connection has been made. Meanwhile the TeleEye receiving software would indicate the alarm input that has been triggered and give an alarm sound through the PC speaker. All the incoming videos into the receiving PC would be recorded automatically into the hard drive of the receiving PC.

c) How would the TeleEye transmitter handle if two alarms are triggered simultaneously?

Answer: The videos from the associated cameras of both alarm events would be transmitted to the TeleEye receiving PC. These incoming videos would be recorded into the hard drive.

d) How would the TeleEye transmitter handle if it finds that the receiving PC is busy?

Answer: Each TeleEye transmitter can accommodate up to 4 alarm dial-back numbers. If the TeleEye transmitter finds the 1st number is busy, it will try to make connection to the 2nd number. If the 2nd number is also busy, it will try to make connection to the 3rd number. After trying on these 4 numbers and if all of them are busy, the TeleEye will repeat and try on the 1st number again until the connection can be made.

E. TELEMETRY

a) What types of P/T/Z cameras are compatible with the CCU-1?

Answer: CCU-1 is compatible with all 24V AC pan/tilt heads and galvanometer-type motorized zoom lenses.

b) Can TeleEye work with 3rd party telemetry systems and speed dome cameras?

Answer: TeleEye is compatible with various third party telemetry systems and speed dome cameras like Panasonic, Kampro, BBV, Pelco, VCL, Canon, Demco, Lilin, C&B, Kalatel, etc.

c) How to connect the TeleEye transmitter to a speed dome camera with RS-422/485 interface?

Answer: TeleEye RX / VX / VRB / VXB Series have built-in RX-422/485 interface which allows direct connection with speed dome camera.

F. AUDIO TRANSMISSION

a) Can TeleEye and TeleEAR work together for video conferencing application?

Answer: TeleEAR comes with 4 audio inputs and 1 audio output and it is designed for remote audio monitoring and public addressing. Usually the microphones for audio monitoring and the loudspeakers for public addressing would be installed in the same premises, the TeleEAR operates in half-duplex mode in order to avoid any audio feedback or echolng problem. Owing to the half-duplex operation, it is not very suitable for video conference that usually requires full-duplex audio transmission.

b) Can TeleEAR provide two-way audio transmission?

Answer: TeleEAR has 4 inputs to connect to microphones for audio monitoring and 1 audio output to connect to loudspeaker for remote public addressing. It operates in half-duplex to avoid any feedback or echoing problem.

c) Can TeleEAR work alone?

Answer: Yes, TeleEye can work alone. It can connect to external modem directly for audio transmission and reception with WRS3-AD.

G. ELECTRONIC PATROL

a) What is the difference between "Schedule" and "Continuous" modes in the "Electronic Patrol" setting?

Answer: "Schedule" mode specifies the connection to a particular remote site at specific 'start time' and 'end time'. It is suitable for patrolling a remote site on a specific date and period of time. "Continuous" mode specifies the connection to a particular remote site for a specific period of time. It is suitable for patrolling a number of remote sites for a specific period of time on each site.

b) How to set up a receiving PC to make connection to a TeleEye transmitter when it is powered up?

Answer:
(i) A shortcut of the TeleEye reception software should be created in the Windows Startup so that the TeleEye reception software would be executed automatically when the PC is powered up.
(ii) In the 'Scheduler -> Patrol' menu of the TeleEye reception software, please create a new entry for connection to the remote site through the 'Auto Connect' mode.
(iii) Check the 'Auto Run' box in the 'Scheduler' menu so that the automatic connection would be made when the TeleEye reception software is running.

H. SECURITY

a) How does TeleEye prevent unauthorized person from receiving video?

Answer: On TeleEye RX Series Video Recording Transmitter, there are 2 security modes, Basic and Advanced. In advanced security mode, administrator can assign different access right between up to 20 user accounts which apply both on local OSD and remote software. Different access rights include audio monitoring, recording, playback, camera control, event control, video backup and system settings.

b) How does TeleEye prevent other people from changing the transmitter's settings?

Answer: Two login passwords would be associated with each TeleEye transmitter in basic security mode. If the user logs in the TeleEye transmitter using the 'general user password', he can operate on the transmitter, but he cannot change any of its internal setting. Only the user logs in the transmitter using the 'administrator password' would be allowed to change the transmitter's settings. In advanced security mode, administrator can assign different access rights including system settings between up to 20 user accounts.

c) How does TeleEye prevent its recorded video from editing by other people?

Answer: As TeleEye employs our proprietary video compression technique in video encoding, the recorded video can only be played back by using our TeleEye Player. In other words, the recorded video cannot be modified by using any other software.

I. M-MONITORING

a) Can M-101 M-Monitoring Solution work on Palm Pilot?

Answer: Generally speaking, the Palm Pilot does not have enough computation power for the TeleEye. So our TeleEye M-monitoring Solution is designed for PDAs running on Windows CE and Pocket PC 2002, like Compaq iPAQ, HP Jornada, etc.

b) What types of mobile phone can work with M-303 M-Monitoring Solution?
